No exhaustive study is available today about the history of Synesius poetic corpus. The book offers a set of researches, dealing with the preservation of the original collection and the order of its single pieces. A new assessment of the internal structure of the entire corpus in general and of single hymns in particular is achieved by a revision of the manuscript tradition and the study of the relationship between Synesius philosophical and religious system of thought and the cultural framework of Late Antiquity. The results lead to a completely new text arrangement.
