Movie Assembly is an internet film making-new media project. It aims to construct short moving images by using photographs that can be found on the internet. Since it is an web based project, it covers some interesting issues such as; internet image-database film making and aesthetics, social aspects of databases, new media database theories, copyright issues on the internet.Also, this kind of film making process, in the form of a series of visual studies, reveals interesting questions such as: how to construct a moving image experience by using found photographs? How to find and download particular photographs? Each visual study in this thesis project created its own set of technical and aesthetic questions.This book analyzes and comments on the above mentioned questions and issues by using the process of the Movie Assembly project, specifically tracing the database film making process step by step, taking a brief look at the social effects of databases, at the debates about what is new about database film making, its aesthetic features and technical difficulties, and comparing the Movie Assembly project with related projects.
About the author
Gokhan Okur graduated from Hacettepe University Electric & Electronic Engineering department in 2005. He continued with a swift shift to Sabanci University Visual Communications Department and gained Master's degree in 2007. He is making short animated films for the last 8 years and honoured with several awards around the globe.
