The thesauro-facet is an information storage and retrieval system that stands for search, locating and retrieving data from a file. An information storage and retrieval system merely inform a user on the existence or non- existence and whereabouts of documents related to his request. The index is also a information retrieval system, which is essentially a filter and its purpose being to let through the wanted documents and hold back the unwanted ones.

About the author

Dr AK Sharma is presently working as University Librarian at Assam University, Silchar (Assam), India. He holds a Ph.D (Library & Information Science), MLISc (University of Delhi) and PGDCA degree. He has more than 25 years of working in different libraries like IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore and ICAR. Having more than 100 publications to his credit.
