England in den 1960ern: Die 16-jährige Jenny träumt von einem Studienplatz an der University of Oxford und arbeitet hart daran, dieses Ziel zu erreichen. Französische Musik, das Cello und die Lateinvokabeln prägen ihre Nachmittage. Doch wie so oft im Leben kommt etwas dazwischen und der charmante David scheint ihre Träume durcheinanderzubringen. Das von Nick Hornby verfasste Drehbuch dient der Heranführung an die Arbeit mit einem Drama. Im Drehbuch wie auch in dem dazugehörigen Film von Lone Scherfing (2009) werden alltägliche Probleme eines Teenagers in den 60ern gezeigt, die heutigen Schülerinnen und Schülern aber ebenso bekannt sein werden. Nick Hornby, geb. 1957, lebt in London. Nach seinem Studium in Cambridge war er als Lehrer und Journalist tätig. Seit 1983 arbeitet er als freier Schriftsteller. Hornby schreibt für die 'Sunday Times', 'Time Out' und das 'Times Literary Supplement'.
