Perusal of literature reveals the importance of 2,4-pyrandione derivatives, especially those substituted heterocyclic moieties at position 3 as antimicrobial agents. In conjuction with our current research with pyrandione and related compounds, we report herein on the chemistry of dehydroacetic acid that accommodates the pharmacological active moieties. However, no review article regarding the synthesis and reactions of such compound was found during the literature survey, and it is the first time to publish such review by us.

About the author










He was born in Cairo (1950). He has obtained his B.Sc. from Cairo University (1971) and M.Sc. from Mansoura University (1975). He has obtained his Ph.D. from Moscow State University (1981). He is now a chairman of The Permenant Scientific Committee of Organic Chemistry for Promotion of associate professors and professors.
