Urban areas are considered as centers of modernization and engines of growth for national economic development. Governments allocate and spend huge amount of resource to accelerate the infrastructural growth of urban areas. However now a day there is a drive toward decentralization and urban governments are becoming catalysts for their own development. Unlike the past, urban governments should shoulder the brunt of mobilizing resources to stimulate growth and impact better life for their residents. Good urban governance therefore is a vital component that urban governments have to be imbued with to ensure efficient generation of resources for their own development. How the quality of governance in urban areas affects urban development has not been sufficiently studied and there is paucity of literature in the area. The book tried to address the dearth of literature in the area by taking case of Jimma Municipal Government in Ethiopia. The analysis and findings in the book draw important lesson for cities undergoing development process in the context of developing countries, since lack of good governance is highlighted as one of the anchoring factors for development.
