In spite of the obvious differences between the formal government system and the traditional system of governance, there is a growing awareness that good governance at the local level can only be achieved when traditional authorities are incorporated into the formal system of governance. This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the predominant traditional authority systems in the Komenda Traditional Area and to a larger extent the Central Region of Ghana. It sets out to assess the roles and relevance of these local authorities in relation to the formal system of governance. The book establishes that traditional authorities are still relevant to local governance even in a modern society. It concludes with the recommendation of integrating traditional authorities into the contemporary system of local governance to secure sustainable development.
