Extraction of bioactive compounds is one of the most important processes in pharmaceutical industries. Phenolic compounds are useful bioactive molecules with important medicinal properties existing in wheat distillers dried grain (DDG) which is a natural source of phenolic compounds available in both Canada and the USA. Due to small amounts of the medicinal compound in DDG, innovative extraction processes are on demand to enhance extraction yield and reduce solvent consumption, extraction time, and costs. Radio frequency (RF) heating assisted extraction and ultrasound based pre-treatment of DDG can potentially improve the extraction yield/speed of phenolic compounds. This book sheds light on characterization of dielectric properties of DDG within RF range, ultrasound pre-treatment based extraction of phenolic compounds from DDG, the extraction kinetics of phenolic compounds from DDG and the best extraction conditions leading to high extraction yield.
