About the author

Despite living in the historic English city of Lincoln John Devaney has, since the turn of the century, been one of the world's most authoritative and prolific writers on the sport of Australian football. Between 2001 and 2011 he compiled and edited what was, at the time, the single biggest online resource for Australian football history in existence. Entitled "Full Points Footy", the website delved into all aspects of the game's Australia-wide history, containing 3.5 million words of text, together with numerous statistics, illustrations and interactive content. Only the AFL's official website attracted more readers. Devaney has also written numerous books about the history of the code which include copious amounts of material unavailable elsewhere.
In 2020 he began work on his biggest undertaking yet, a three volume set of encyclopedias containing mini-biographies of the most noteworthy Australian footballers of the 20th century. In keeping to the philosophy of "Full Points Footy", these players hail from all corners of the country, not just the self-declared 'big time' of the V/AFL.
