Italo Svevo (Aaron Hector Schmitz), geb. 1861 in Triest. Bankangestellter und Redakteur der Zeitschrift 'La critica sociale', später Geschäftsmann. Er schrieb drei Romane, zwölf Theaterstücke und zahlreiche Erzählungen. Svevo starb 1928 an den Folgen eines Autounfalls.
