En 1974 Jacques Lennep (né en 1941) déclare non sans une certaine ambiguïté : « L'art raconte des histoires. » Il figure alors parmi les pionniers de l'art narratif. L'artiste, historien d'art de formation, privilégiera toujours le relationnel, le recours au texte, au récit. Cela l'amènera, de 1996 à 2002, à poursuivre une longue performance : composer chaque jour sur une feuille A4 un journal - qui n'en est pas un. Ses 2 195 Devoirs quotidiens, faits de textes, de photos, de dessins, constituent une sorte de livre anthropoïde qui fusionne les notions de corps et de corpus. Les centaines de planches ont donné lieu à des expositions, véritables installations, inspirées par le concept du « je-livre ».
Cet ouvrage rassemble 371 illustrations, un large choix des Devoirs répartis selon quelques grands thèmes existentiels, de notre rapport à l'art et à la vie. Un CD proposant les 2 195 Devoirs est joint à l'ouvrage.
In 1974, Jacques Lennep (born in 1941) declared, somewhat ambiguously, that « art tells stories ». He is among the pioneers of narrative art. Over the years this artist, who by profession is also an art historian, always stressed the relational aspect, references to the text, the story. From 1996 to 2002 the special nature of his art incited him to embark on a lengthy performance : each and every day to fill an A4 sheet of paper - to compose a journal that wasn't one. These 2 195 Devoirs quotidiens (Daily Homework), composed of texts, photographs, and drawings are an anthropoid book of sorts, a converging of the dual notion of « body ». These hundreds of pages have been displayed in several shows, true installations, inspired by the concept of the « me-book ».
This book includes 371 illustrations, a large selection of the Devoirs bearing witness to broad existential themes, and providing us a view of our relation with art and with life. A CD with the 2 195 Devoirs is included.
