The author's personal opinions are clear, something which I found refreshing and entertaining, not least because he has a very long and extensive practical experience of the region with a broad range of interests. The book provides an extremely useful introduction to South-East Asia and is notably much more readable than its earlier companion volume... the author is to be congratulated on a valuable achievement.
