Informationen zum Autor Werner Hüllen is Professor Emeritus of English Linguistics at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. He has published widely on the history of linguistics, including lexicography, and on the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language. His monograph Their Manner of Discourse: Nachdenken über Sprache im Umkreis der Royal Society (Tübingen 1989) deals with the emergence of scientific discourse in the seventeenth century and the cultivation of a plain style in English. He co-edited the Handbuch Fremdsprachenunterricht (Tübingen 1989), the Handbuch Englisch als Fremdsprache (1995), and a handbook Fachsprachen: Languages for Special Purposes (Berlin 1998-9). His most recent book is A History of Roget's Thesaurus (OUP 2004; paperback edition, 2005).
