McCarthy! RPA! Delaware State Parks"This book provides the reader both an impressive amount of literature and the possibility to select the elements from the texts that are applicable to his/her own work and to link it together to build his/her own critical thoughts on the topic." - Anthony Grégoire! Anthropology Book Forum Francois G. Richard is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Chicago, USA. His ongoing research in the Siin region of Senegal investigates the long-term relationship binding rural villagers with various configurations of state power, from the Atlantic era to present times, and develops out of his PhD thesis, From Cosaan to Colony (Syracuse 2007). His interests lie in social theory, social landscapes, subjectivity, materiality, and coloniality, in Africa and within the African diaspora. He has published papers on the phenomenology of power and construction of identity in Senegambia during the Atlantic period across a range of Africanist and anthropological journals. Kevin C. MacDonald, Professor of African Archaeology at University College London, received his PhD from Cambridge in 1994 and began a lectureship at UCL in the same year. His research embraces a variety of topics, including ethnicity, social complexity and enslavement, ceramic technology, and archaeozoology. His research ranges from prehistoric to historical periods in West Africa and its Diaspora. He is the author of over 70 publications, many in prominent peer-reviewed journals, and has edited four books including: African Re-Genesis: Confronting Social Issues in the Diaspora (with Jay Haviser, Left Coast Press, 2006), and more recently Slavery in Africa: Archaeology and Memory (with Paul Lane, Oxford University Press, 2011).
