L'Evangile expliqué aux enfants

C'est en 1908 que Tolstoï publia ce texte limpide
qui expose la vie et la pensée originelle du Christ.
Profondément croyant, l'auteur de Guerre et Paix
avait rompu avec toutes les institutions religieuses
qui l'avaient excommunié en 1901.
Refusant les miracles de la tradition chrétienne et les
dogmes comme ceux de l'Immaculée Conception ou
de la Trinité, il élabora une philosophie chrétienne qui
marqua le début des théories de la non-violence de
Gandhi, notamment.
La simplicité de son exposé, le retour à une sagesse
chrétienne des origines débarrassée de ses superstitions
font de ce récit un texte passionnant pour
comprendre l'engagement de Tolstoï dans la vie
sociale, politique, philosophique de son temps.
