About the author
Jonathan Swift, geb. 1667 in Dublin, 1689-94 Sekretär des Schriftstellers Sir William Temple in England, dann anglikanischer Geistlicher und von 1713 an Dekan von St. Patrick's in Dublin. Mit seinen beißenden Satiren kämpfte er gegen kirchliche und gesellschaftliche Mißstände. Er starb 1745.
Pauline Francis lebt mit ihrem Mann in Hertfordshire und hat zwei erwachsene Töchter. Früher arbeitete sie zunächst als Schulbibliothekarin und Französischlehrerin, lebte eine zeitlang in Afrika und übersetzte Bücher, ehe sie Schriftstellerin wurde. Sie schreibt hauptsächlich Geschichten mit historischem Hintergrund oder erzählt bekannte Klassiker wie "Oliver Twist" auf neue Weise nach. Auch schreibt sie Texte für junge Leute, die gerade Englisch lernen.
