About the author

Geoff Emberling, a curator and archaeologist, is a Visiting Scholar at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Emberling was most recently Museum Director and Chief Curator at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago (2004-2010). Prior to joining the Oriental Institute, he was Assistant Curator in the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. As an archaeologist, Dr. Emberling has directed excavations in Syria and Sudan.
