Le 13 novembre 1935, un an et demi après sa démission du poste de recteur de l'université et près de trois ans après l'arrivée au pouvoir de Hitler, Martin Heidegger prononce une conférence à la Société des sciences de l'art de Fribourg-en-Brisgau. Dans la version préparatoire que nous traduisons ici, l'essentiel est déjà atteint : en tant que fondement de l'existence humaine, du monde et de la terre, la poésie conditionne le sens de la politique et de la philosophie.
Le paradoxe est de nous trouver aujourd'hui dans l'impossibilité de nous approprier une conférence écrite dans un tel contexte, et pourtant dans une nécessité qui s'apparente encore étroitement à celle que reconnaît Heidegger, de nous libérer de la philosophie esthétique pour laisser parler la poésie. La tension que produit cette lecture nous confronte ainsi à nous-mêmes et à notre propre responsabilité.
