This is a descriptive study set to assess the PEFR of school going children of 6-14 years of age in Bangalore. The sample size was 580 from both the sex. The sample size was 580. Systematic random sampling was used to pick the samples. The study was conducted during the months of January and April 2010. Interview schedule was used to collect the data related to socio-economic, cultural and demography. Peak Flow Expiratory Meter was used to measure peak flow expiratory rate. Selected socio- economic, cultural and environmental factors were compared with PFER. Percentages, statistical tools, illustrations were used to analyse the data. There was a significant relation among age, height, and environmental hazards like smoke, dust, presence of pets at home with PEFR in school going children.

Raji Sugumar (b.1962) is Associate Professor in the Department of Home Science, Bharathidasan Govt. College for Women (affiliated to Pondicherry University),Puducherry, India. Her professional career is spanned over two and half decades. Her academic work includes teaching, research,and extension.
