Composite Landscapes widmet sich einer der bekanntesten Darstellungsformen der Landschaftsarchitektur, dem montierten Bild. Dazu stellt der Band Werke einflussreicher zeitgenössischer Künstler montierten Ansichten aus den Studios weltweit führender Landschaftsarchitekten gegenüber. Dabei werden unterschiedliche Verfahrensweisen der Fotomontage erkennbar, anhand derer sich verschiedene Dimensionen von Landschaft aufzeigen lassen: etwa konzeptionelle und zeitliche Aspekte oder Erfahrungen in ihr.
Als erste Publikation überhaupt untersucht Composite Landscapes die analogen Anfänge einer Methode, die dank digitaler Hilfsmittel heute überall zur Anwendung kommt. Der Band betrachtet montierte Landschaftsansichten als eine eigenständige kulturelle Ausdrucksform und beleuchtet den heutigen Stellenwert von konstruierten fotografischen Abbildungen für alle Varianten von Design und viele andere Bereiche.

Summary
Composite Landscapes examines one of landscape architecture’s most recognizable representational forms, the montage view. The volume gathers work from a select group of influential contemporary artists and a dozen of the world’s leading landscape architects. These composite views reveal practices of photomontage depicting the conceptual, experiential, and temporal dimensions of landscape. Composite Landscapes illustrates the analog origins of a method now rendered ubiquitous through digital means. In revisiting the composite landscape view as a cultural form, Composite Landscapes illuminates the contemporary status of the photographically constructed image for the design disciplines, and beyond.
