Strengthening Community Colleges Through Institutional Collaborations - New Directions for Community Colleges, Number 165

Institutional collaborations are cornerstones for building successful programs that support effective teaching and learning, quality advisement, global awareness, community building, and institutional advancement. Partnerships call for individual and collective thinking and planning--essential building
blocks for designing best practices and integrating college communities. This issue of New Directions for Community Colleges illustrates various examples of effective collaborations written by community college presidents, administrators, faculty, and leaders of state governments and national organizations. Each has contributed a story illustrating a successful program that required the efforts of a range of individuals, and recommendations for others to build their own successes. Their topics include:
- How to build effective dual enrollment programs to motivate high school students in rural areas to pursue higher education
- Why collaboration is crucial for institutions that apply for federal grant funding
- Effective partnering with institutional research and technology departments to advance student services and college-wide strategic planning

The chapters in this volume were written to inform administrators and faculty about myriad ways to accomplish college-wide goals by reaching across institutional divisions and to outside organizations to form effective, productive partnerships.

About the author

Rhonda Carrier settled in London in the mid-1990s, after studying languages and literature at Cambridge and the Sorbonne in Paris. For many years she worked as a writer and editor for leading London guides and listings magazines, as well as publishing award-winning short fiction.
