Ausgehend von der alttestamentlichen Erfahrung des mitgehenden Gottes (Ex 13,21) über die Weggenossenschaft Jesu mit seinen Jüngern (Lk 24,13-35), die Tradition der ägyptischen Wüstenväter bis zu dem starken Impuls des Ignatius von Loyola hat es zu jeder Zeit 'Mütter und Väter im Glauben' gegeben, die das Leben des Christenmenschen mit ihrer Wegweisung und behutsamen Liebe begleitet haben. Die neuere Lutherforschung macht deutlich, dass der geistliche Wegbegleiter Martin Luthers, Johann von Staupitz, wesentlichen Anteil an dessen reformatorischer Entdeckung hatte. Anliegen der Studie ist es, Geistliche Begleitung als eine spezifische Form der Seelsorge in trialogischer Struktur darzustellen: also einem Kommunikationsgeschehen zwischen dem dreieinigen Gott, der zu begleitenden Person und dem Geistlichen Begleiter. Im Wesentlichen geht es um eine Seelsorge, die sich im Kontext von Gottesbegegnung, Stille und Gebet vollzieht und daher eine kontemplative Grundhaltung voraussetzt. [Silence and Prayer. Spiritual Accompaniment as Pastoral Care in a Contemplative Attitude]Based on the experience of God who accompanies His People, as it is designed in the Old Testament (Ex 13,21), there have always been 'Fathers' and 'Mothers' united in their belief, who have accompanied the lives of Christians by means of their directing and cautious love, which - in Latin - is phrased as 'discreta caritas'. The more recent research on Luther clearly proves that Luther's 'spiritual companion', Johann von Staupitz, essentially contributed to Luther's reforming discovery. The concern of the author's thesis is to portray Spiritual Direction as a specific form of pastoral care in its trialogical structure, which means a process of communication centered amidst the Triune God, the person to be spiritually directed and the companion. The subject of this trialogical structure is pastoral companionship which is performed in the context of encountering God, silence and prayer. Consequently this is the reason why a mainly contemplative attitude is assumed and required
