About the author

D. Robert Ladd is Professor of Linguistics, Emeritus, at the University of Edinburgh, where he has been since 1985. He has also held visiting positions at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen and the Department of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins. His research focuses on intonation, prosody, and laboratory phonology. His books include Intonational Phonology (CUP 1996, 2nd edn 2008).
