This new text will, for the first time, critically examine tourism policy alongside the instrumental uses of tourism in other areas of public policy. The first part of the book will introduce the reader to the notion of public policy for tourism and critically examines why it is necessary for the control of the industry, various approaches to tourism policy, distinction between policy and planning and the instruments employed to put policy into action. The second Part of the book will critically analyse the relationship between tourism and other fields of public policy including health, social, economic, regeneration, security and environmental policy.
A range of international case studies and examples are integrated throughout to show policy in practice and help to support the development of international comparative research in tourism policy by providing new, adaptable models and offering examples of comparative work. To encourage reflection on main themes addressed and critical thinking discussion questions and links to further reading are included in each chapter.
This book will act as valuable reading for student, academic and researchers in Tourism and related disciplines.
