Gen. Andrew J. Goodpaster was one of the leading soldier-scholars of his time. He was one of the key figures during the Cold War. Goodpaster served Dwight Eisenhower in establishing the international military component of NATO and then served as his Staff Secretary. He was actively involved both the formal and informal world of Washington policy-making, making his mark repeatedly as a respected participant.

About the author










Robert S. Jordan has doctorates from both Princeton and Oxford Universities, where he was a member of St. Antony's College. He served as Director of Research for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research. He was Distinguished Professor and Fleet Professor for the U.S. Naval War College and lectured at the Army and Air War Colleges, along with the former British Imperial Defence College. He has published widely on Cold War alliance policy, coalition maritime affairs, international administration and military biography and lives in Woodbridge, VA.
