This study was carried out in Puducherry, the capital city of this Union Territory of India. This is a descriptive cum cross sectional study involving multiple methodological approaches. Correlational method was used for analysis to infer the crux of the problem. The sample size was 341. Adolescent girls belonging to 19-21 years of age is the cohort of the study. A self-administered questionnaire was used to seek socio-demographic, health profile and dietary pattern. Standard instruments and procedures were used for analysis of blood and body composition. The finding of the study revealed that 77 percent were anemic, 22 percent obese and 17 percent both anemic and obese. Within the obese individual 80 percent were also anemic which is indicative of dual burden of anemia and obesity.

Raji Sugumar (b.1962) is Associate Professor in the Department of Home Science, Bharathidasan Govt. College for Women (affiliated to Pondicherry University),Puducherry, India. Her professional career is spanned over two and half decades. Her academic work includes teaching, research,and extension.
