Auf der Basis umfangreicher quantitativer und qualitativer Daten zeigt dieses Buch, wie sich altere Erwerbstatige weiterbilden und welche Faktoren die Entscheidung für oder gegen eine Weiterbildungsteilnahme beeinflussen. Dabei werden verschiedene Typen von alteren Erwerbstatigen aufgrund ihrer Bildungsmotive unterschieden. Theoretisch stützt sich die Auswertung auf motivations- und interessenstheoretische Konzepte sowie andragogische Modelle und insbesondere auf eine Heuristik zu Bildungsertragen in Form von Human-, Sozial- und Identitatskapital.
