Mit ihrer weitgehend abgeschlossenen Digitalisierung sind die Medien Film und Video fast gänzlich im Medium "Computer" aufgegangen. Und auch unser Rezeptionsverhalten hat sich nachhaltig geändert: Wurden filmische Werke bislang hauptsächlich in Kino und Fernsehen gesehen, gewinnen jetzt die DVD und das Internet zunehmend an Bedeutung - Aspekte einer umfassenden Remediatisierung im Bereich der Audiovisionen. Filme und Videos werden tendenziell als simulierte Anwendungen auf dem Computer rezipiert. Aber die Ränder sind nach vielen Seiten offen: mit den Machinimas werden in Game-Umgebungen Filme gedreht, merkwürdige Mischformen aus Computerspiel, Film und Theater. Es wird über Zugänge zu Archiven nachgedacht, die sich filmischer Grammatiken bedienen.
