Blythe Lucero wuchs in Berkeley, Kalifornien, als Kind einer großen Sportlerfamilie auf. In ihrer Jugend betrieb sie den Schwimmsport wettkampfmäßig und gehörte im College zur nationalen amerikanischen Spitzenklasse. Im Verlauf der letzten beiden Jahrzehnte hat sie mit Schwimmern aller Leistungsklassen, von Anfängern bis zu Weltklasseathleten, zusammengearbeitet. Sie hat mit großem Erfolg sowohl Jugend- als auch Seniorenschwimmteams trainiert. Zurzeit ist sie als Trainerin der "Berkeley Aquatic Masters", zu denen 80 erwachsene Schwimmer im Alter von 19-85 Jahren gehören, tätig.
