Informationen zum Autor Jörg Imberger is the Director of the Centre for Water Research and Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he is a Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellow. Imberger received his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley in 1970 and became Professor of Environmental Engineering at UWA in 1979. Klappentext This textbook is designed to introduce the principles of fluid dynamics to students of environmental and aquatic sciences. The author, Professor of Environmental Engineering and the Director of the Centre for Water Research at the University of Western Australia, is careful to include the appropriate mathematical expressions for the fundamentals of fluid dynamics without overburdening the reader with difficult or extensive notation. A broad cross-section of scientists working in aquatic environments will enjoy Imberger¿s treatment of environmental fluid dynamics, a foundation for elucidating the importance of hydrodynamics and hydrology in the regulation of energy, and biomass in aquatic ecosystems. The book is organized into several parts, introducing principles, followed by simple applications, building to more complex applications experienced in the field. While there are several established texts on fluid mechanics, Imberger¿s new treatment will offer a unique, authoritative and yet accessible treatment, suitable for a broad audience of scientists and engineers working in fresh, estuarine, and marine environments. Based on years of lecturing in fluid dynamics, the author¿s battle-tested organization will facilitate a fundamental understanding of the fluid mechanical processes that control the sources, pathways and fates of anthropogenic influences in various components of hydrologically interconnected environments, such as river basins.
