Glucose control and insulin therapy in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have gained lots of attention in the past ten years. New technologies like continuous or near continuous glucose monitoring are opening new perspectives in endogenous and exogenous glucose regulation, though devices suitable for critically ill patients are emerging into the market slowly. New metrics of glucose regulation have turned out to be new targets for therapeutic glucose control, since they are associated with mortality.
