Alcoholism is the most widespread and the most serious form of addiction associated with numerous health, economic and social problems. In individual chapters of the thesis, the author addresses problems and damage that the alcohol abuse causes to individuals, families and society. The greatest attention is paid to the phenomenon of family disease, the codependence. The primary target group concerns children whose problems connected to parental alcoholism are diverse. The objective of this thesis is to find out what it means for an adult child of alcoholic to be his child, to analyse common and differentiated characteristics in children of alcoholics as well as to identify the possible consequences in adult life.
