Carson-Newman, a private, Christian liberal arts university, is located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, approximately 25 miles east of Knoxville. In the early 1840s, a number of Baptist leaders desired to offer better-prepared ministers to area congregations. A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Linda T. Gass has worked at Carson-Newman since 1973. After retiring in 2003 from her position as cataloger, she assumed her current role as archives assistant. Albert L. Lang has served as special collections librarian and archivist at Carson-Newman since 1996. This pictorial history contains images from the college's archives, departmental and private collections, and the Standard Banner of Jefferson County.
