Paris Spleen

Published posthumously in 1869, The Spleen of Paris was a landmark publication in the development of the genre of prose poetry - a form which Baudelaire saw as particularly suited for expressing the feelings of uncertainty, flux and freedom of his age - and one of the founding texts of literary modernism.

About the author

Charles Baudelaire (1821-67) hat überwiegend in Paris gelebt, wo er das väterliche Erbe als Großstadtdandy durchbrachte. Er war auch tätig als Kunstkritiker, übersetzte Poe und entdeckte die Musik Richard Wagners für Frankreich.
