L'attacco a Cufra

The attack on Kufra

On 19 January 1931 the Italian army attacked the last stronghold of the Libyan resistance, ending a long struggle to conquer the Country. This extensively prepared military operation included not only infantry and camel-mounted supply columns, but also trucks, artillery, machine-guns and airplanes, even armoured cars on the Italian side. On the side of the defenders of Kufra, only rifles and the traditional weapons of the desert warriors, other than a few machine-guns and artillery pieces, were available.
