Secret Promise

Set in 1907, Secret Promise follows the story of Caroline, a teacher who derives her only satisfaction in life from her job but cannot help being attracted to Jake who just inherited a store in town. Events transpire that allow a romance to develop that leads both Caroline and Jake to rely on prayer and laughter.

About the author

Mary Lou Cheatham grew up in rural Mississippi listening to her parents spin yarns. After graduating from college, she taught English for several years and then went back to school to become a registered nurse. Her writing depicts life in rural and small town Mississippi in the early 1900's.
