Informationen zum Autor Catherine Ware is currently undertaking research at the University of Liverpool after having been awarded a mobility post-doctoral fellowship by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Specialising in the epic tradition and the literature of late antiquity, she is now working on the Panegyrici Latini project, preparing commentaries on two of the speeches in honour of the emperor Constantine. Klappentext As the self-styled successor of Virgil, Claudian redefines the world of late antiquity in terms of classical Latin epic. "This monograph is a refreshing contribution to Claudian scholarship which serves to reveal the complex literary qualities which make his political poetry successful. Ware shows an expert ability to interweave careful presentation of the allusions and intertexts layered by Claudian with accessible guidance to poetry which has, too often, been treated solely as a historical and political source." --BMCR Zusammenfassung Panegyrist of the emperor Honorius and propagandist of Stilicho! the late antique poet Claudian has traditionally been the preserve of historians rather than literary critics.
