Ihre Werke gelten in Europa noch als Geheimtipp. Bis 1982, dem Jahr ihrer Ermordung, schuf sie ein umfangreiches Werk, das sich mit Sprache, Erinnerung, Dislozierung und Entfremdung auseinander setzt. Oft kombinierte Cha Aspekte unterschiedlichster Medien und schuf ganz neue Ausdrucksformen. Dabei erkundet sie Sprache und ihre Bedeutung aus einer biografisch-koreanischen Perspektive. Dieser reich illustrierte Band führt den Leser ein in ihre Künstlerbücher, Papier- und Textilarbeiten, Performances, Filme und Videoinstallationen. Erstmals gelingt hier ein Überblick über ein Werk, das als Pionierarbeit immer mehr an Bedeutung gewinnt.

Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, geb. 04.03.1951 in Korea, emigrierte 1964 nach San Francisco, USA und studierte in den 1970er Jahren vergleichende Literaturwissenschaften und bildende Kunst. Am 05.11.1982 von einem Unbekannten in New York City ermordet.
Sabine Breitwieser Since October 2010 she is Chief Curator for Media and Performance Art at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. She is Secretary and Treasurer of CIMAM the International Committee of ICOM (International Council of Museums) for Museums and Collections of Modern Art. From 1988 until 2007 she was the (Founding) Director and Curator of the Generali Foundation in Vienna for which she has built the institution, the program and an important collection published in the volumes Exhibitions 1989-2007 (2008) and in Occupying Space (2003). She has curated numerous projects and edited as many publications on artists.
