Michel Leiris, geboren 1901 in Paris. Er gehörte in den 20er Jahren der Surrealisten-Gruppe an. 1931 - 1933 ethnologische Forschungsreise durch Afrika, 1938 Begründung des College de France (mit Bataille und Caillois), und langjährige Leitung der Schwarzafrika-Abteilung des Musee de l'Homme in Paris. Zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen sowie diverse ethnologische Schriften und Künstlerstudien. Der Autor verstarb 1990 in Paris.
