This book provides an authoritative survey of 19th century German glass painting. It offers detailed knowledge of the individual glass painters, their workshops, their specific qualifications, and artistic intentions. Although the book focuses on South German glass painting, it analyses as well the glass painting around 1800 in other countries and regions such as Austria, France, Great Britain, the Benelux countries, the North of Switzerland, Prussia, Saxony and Thuringia.
One chapter describes the history of glass painting from the Middle Ages towards the end of the 18th century. For easy reference extensive subject- and topographical indexes and a list of persons are included.

About the author

Dr. Elgin Vaassen studierte Kunstgeschichte, Archäologie und Historische Hilfswissenschaften an den Universitäten Bonn, Zürich und Würzburg. Seit rund 30 Jahren beschäftigt sie sich mit der Glasmalerei des 19. Jahrhunderts sowie mit deren Maltechniken und -farben und veröffentlichte zahlreiche Artikel sowie einige Bücher zu dem Thema.
