Informationen zum Autor Gyokuransai Sadahide was born near Edo in 1807. He was an accomplished student of Utagawa Kunisada, one of the most renowned of Japanese woodblock artists. His early work was mainly book illustrations, but in the 1830s he began to produce prints of subjects such as women, actors, and warriors. Klappentext This vibrant compilation features more than 100 hard-to-find examples of works by a noted Japanese woodblock artist including depictions of heavily armored samurai, battle scenes, and well-defended fortresses. Drawn from a series of volumes originally published in 1862, the dynamic images offer authentic views of warrior life during the Edo period.
