This is a special anniversary issue in celebration of the 50th volume in the Yearbook of Liturgy and Hymnology series. It opens with a review of the history of this series of yearbooks. To celebrate the special occasion, a new facsimile edition of the so-called "Eight-Song Book" of 1524 has also been published. The President of the Council of the Protestant Church of Germany (EKD), Nikolaus Schneider, wrote a Foreword for the volume and praised both the scientific efforts displayed by the Yearbook as well as the work that has been done to make liturgy and hymnology a part of everyday church life.The liturgical contributions concern the future perspectives of liturgy in the Protestant Church of Germany. The volume is rounded off by a historical review of the past few years. The section on hymnology is devoted to questions surrounding music in the Church and other publications in this regard.

Dr.theol. Andreas Marti ist Titularprofessor für Kirchenmusik an der Universität Bern, CH. Er ist Kirchenmusiker in Köniz bei Bern, Fachbeauftragter der Liturgie- und Gesangbuchkonferenz der evang.-ref. Kirchen der deutschsprachigen Schweiz und Präsident der Liturgiekommission, außerdem Dozent für Liturgik und Hymnologie an den Musikhochschulen Bern und Zürich und in der Kirchenmusikausbildung im Kanton Aargau und in der französischsprachigen Schweiz, Gastdozent an der Universität Zürich und an der Musikuniversität Graz, Schriftleiter am "Jahrbuch für Liturgik und Hymnologie".§Redakteur der Zeitschrift "Musik und Gottesdienst".§Als Cembalist und Organist gastiert er in der Schweiz und in Deutschland.
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ratzmann, Theologe und Pfarrer, seit 1992 Professor für Praktische Theologie an der Univerität Leipzig. Seit 1993 Leiter des Liturgiewissenschaftlichen Institutes der VELKD an der Theologischen Fakultät Leipzig.
