Lawrences, Kriegsberichterstatter der 'Times', Chef des britischen geheimen Nachrichtendienstes im Ersten Weltkrieg, Generalgouverneur von Kanada und erhielt das Adelsprädikat eines 'ersten Lord Tweedsmuir'. Veröffentlichung zahlreicher historischer Werke, darunter eine Biographie über Oliver Cromwell.
