The Korean collections of the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques-Guimet stand as testimony to links between France and Korea at the end of the 19th century. The original core of the collections was brought back by the Varat Expedition in 1888, and has since been enriched with many outstanding items, most notably those transferred from the Louvre in 1945.
Published to mark the reopening of the Musée Guimet, this book presents a broad selection of these exhibits.
It may serve as both an introduction to Korean art and a guide to the newly created rooms.
Now accessible once again, this rich heritage conveys an accurate idea of the part played by Korea in the history of Far Eastern art and civilization.
