Il faut être dans l'Orient des Mille et Une Nuits, dans un temps indéterminé, bref dans l'univers du conte, pour que tout finisse aussi bien. Sauf quand l'ironie voltairienne pointe le nez et qu'il faut comprendre autre chose que ce qui est écrit... Une critique de la société française parfumée aux épices orientales.
L'accompagnement pédagogique travaille sur cette forme subtile et difficile de l'humour qu'est l'ironie, une des armes favorites de Voltaire. Il donne également quelques clés de cette satire qui se cachait derrière le voile de l'ailleurs pour mieux critiquer les usages de la cour versaillaise.
