De quoi s'agit-il ? D'un François I^er libertin et jouisseur, oublieux de ses devoirs, séduisant toutes les femmes, les violant même parfois, et de son valet, Triboulet, un fou méchant à la cour et mélancolique en privé, un père exclusif et jaloux d'une fille encore vierge. De cette pièce, Verdi a tiré un de ses chefs-d'oeuvres, Rigoletto.
