Souvent réduite au Livre de la jungle, aux contes drolatiques qu'il écrivait pour ses enfants ou bien encore à l'épopée des Capitaines courageux, l'oeuvre de Rudyard Kipling, couronnée par le prix Nobel de littérature en 1907, reste méconnue. En particulier, l'immense corpus de nouvelles où son esprit curieux de tout et pétri de l'humour anglais fait mouche.
