La tempête

Au retour du mariage de la princesse Claribel
avec le roi de Tunis, le vaisseau du roi de Naples,
Alonso, qu'accompagne son fils Ferdinand,
est pris dans une tempête et s'échoue sur une île
habitée par un monstre, Caliban, et par un esprit
aérien, Ariel. L'ancien duc de Milan, Prospéro,
naguère évincé du trône par son frère Antonio,
y vit depuis douze ans : or c'est lui qui a magiquement
provoqué la tempête...
Si La Tempête, dernière pièce de Shakespeare écrite
en 1611, est une comédie, sa dimension comique
reste discrète, et cette oeuvre singulière semble
surtout l'équivalent d'un «masque de cour»,
spectacle total aux ballets bien réglés, avec chants
et musique, où domine l'art de l'enchanteur.
Et l'enchanteur est ici l'omniprésent Prospéro,
qui a mis à son service Caliban et Ariel.
Chassé du pouvoir, il exerce sa vengeance,
mais ne refuse pas la main de sa fille à Ferdinand.
