Révolution non violente

Révolution non violente est certainement l'ouvrage
qui permet le mieux de comprendre, de l'intérieur,
ce que fut le grand mouvement de libération des
Noirs américains. Dans ce livre consacré à la
«révolution noire» qui éclata en 1963 en divers
points des États-Unis, Martin Luther King, prix
Nobel de la paix 1964, raconte l'action extraordinaire
qu'il mena avec son mouvement en
faveur des droits civiques. Action non violente,
mais action directe, menée sur plusieurs fronts,
et qui fut illustrée par la célèbre marche sur
Washington et par le vote au Sénat de la loi sur
les droits civiques.
Mais les pages de ce livre n'évoquent pas seulement
une action. Elles révèlent aussi toute la personnalité
de Martin Luther King, à la fois humble
et passionnée, profondément attachante dans ses
appels si lucides, émouvante dans la célèbre
lettre, si sereine, qu'il écrivit du fond de sa cellule
dans la prison de Birmingham.
