Le TOFD en pratique
Une nouvelle technique de contrôle non destructif ultrasonore appelée TOFD (Time of flight diffraction) est apparue il y a quelques années.
Ses capacités pour la détection, la localisation et la mesure des défauts ont été démontrées par de nombreux essais, mais sa mise en oeuvre reste encore limitée dans l'industrie, faute peut-être d'informations suffisantes pour faire évoluer les pratiques actuelles en matière de contrôle non destructif.
L'objet de cet ouvrage est d'en rappeler et d'en préciser les principaux aspects et de donner aux industriels, devant réaliser ou faire réaliser ce type d'examen, les éléments nécessaires pour tirer parti au mieux de ses possibilités. Notamment que l'examen TOFD ne peut se substituer à la radiographie qu'à la condition de respecter certaines dispositions énoncées en annexe 2.

TOFD practical handbook
Time of flight diffraction (TOFD) is a new method of ultrasonic non-destructive testing that appeared in the 1970s.
Although its capacity of detection, location and measurement of flaws has been proven by many tests, it is still not very widely used in industry. This may be because there is not enough information to drive a change in current non-destructive testing practices.
The purpose of this book is to explain the main aspects of this method and to provide manufacturers who have to conduct such tests with the information they need to take full advantage of the possibilities afforded by this method. In particular, the TOFD procedure may replace radiography once the provisions set out in appendix 2 have been complied with.
Appendices 2 and 3 also contain references to standards, technical documents or articles relating to TOFD.
